For many, riding a motorcycle is more than just a means of transportation; it is an enjoyable hobby. Couple that with the sunny, warm weather of the summer, and the number of motorcycle riders increases further. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that driving a motorcycle can be an extremely dangerous activity. Often, motorcycle crashes end in serious injury or death for the rider.

A recent study has shown that the summer months are the deadliest time of year to drive a motorcycle. One month, in particular, stands out as the most dangerous to ride a motorcycle, and it is July.

Contrary to what you may believe, most motorcycle accidents are single-vehicle crashes, meaning that no other vehicle was involved in the incident. In fact, single-vehicle claims outnumbered rear-end crashes and intersection crashes combined.

It is absolutely essential that drivers of motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc. make a great effort to stay safe on the roads this summer. Here are some motorcycle safety tips to follow:

  • Always wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle
  • Wear bright colored clothing when operating a motorcycle
  • Leave adequate space between your vehicle, and the vehicle in front of you
  • Be cognizant of potholes and bumps in the road
